Astrology has been with mankind for over 5000 years. The oldest astrological document that still exists dates back to 668-626 B.C. holds the calculations of solar and lunar eclipse and astronomical observations. Ancient documents and artefacts reveal that astrology was practiced earlier for the needs of daily life. According to them stars were the sources of everything. They functioned as messengers of everything that happened in this universe. There is also compelling evidence that Magi -group of wise men, who checked out Jesus at birth were astrologer-priests from ancient Persia.

Astrology during the Babylon period was an important part of their religion. Babylonian priests were called due to their connections with the gods and their ability to predict the future. They later improved in the art of reading the sky. A primary Babylonian record says if the sky is bright when the new moon appears and it is greeted with shouts of joy, the year will be good. The major advancement in sky reading was achieved in sixth century BCE, when the sky was divided into 12 sections of 30 degrees each, thus resulting in the 12 zodiac signs. After the development of mathematical astronomy, the calculation of various movements of celestial bodies became possible which later paved way for the horoscopes that we even see till this date.

This art of astrology later traveled to Egypt and Greece where more refinements were made in this field. The Greeks developed what came to be known as cathartic astrology. They limited the scope of astrology to a person's life and start predicting their big decisions. The Greeks later improved in this subject and could accurately predict the time of marriage and children for a person. Astrology related to fate, later returned to Roman Empire where most kings worshipped these astrologers and lived their lives.

Astrology has always been a mystical subject since ancient times. It is the study of movements of planets and other celestial bodies and the impact they hold in our lives. The word Astrology is derived from the Greek word Astrologia, which indicates star study. Astrology has a rich historical background.
